When you scan the runways this season you may notice something bold standing out from every designer. Prints have made a big splash this season, but how do you mix and match patterns like a pro? There are a few go-to art prints that every fashion lover needs in their wardrobe. By curating just the right prints in your closet, you’ll be able to take any outfit from ordinary to runway ready.

1. Florals

As with most prints, there is a right and wrong way to wear floral. There isn’t much middle ground when it comes to styling this pattern. With florals you need to go either extremely bright or completely subdued. A bright neon floral should always be paired with a neutral to avoid looking too gaudy. You can follow Peter Som’s lead by matching a bright floral blouse with a black skirt as shown in his 2012 runway show. On the other end of the spectrum, a subtle, pale floral dress may look too boring alone. Use accessories to spice things up. Metallic shoes or a bright red lip can pull it all together. Try to view the print as your focal piece and build the rest of your outfit to highlight the pattern.

2. Stripes

Stripes is a tried and true print for many of the fashion elite. Nothing is more flattering than vertical stripes and it’s hard to find something which can be styled in such a wide range of ways than a striped blouse. Stripes are one of fashion’s most versatile looks. From punk rock to prep, you can tweak this print in so many ways. Another benefit of stripes is it’s ability to play well with others. You can mix this pattern with another bold prints and look chic and discerning. Look to Juan Vidal’s Spring 2015 runway show for inspiration and you’ll be effortlessly stylish.

3. Tribal

A newcomer to the print party, tribal print has been making a big statement all over the runways. With a huge rise in popularity in the last few years, tribal prints are everywhere. You’ll want to be sure you don’t look too trivial when wearing tribal, so choose a print that is bold and unique. Choose a well made fabric so the print doesn’t stretch and distort on the body. Mara Hoffman creates stunning tribal printed garments and is well known for her body-conscious swimwear, kaftans and bodycon dresses. It’s an excellent choice for someone looking to incorporate more tribal print into their wardrobe and are especially perfect for summer.

4. Vintage

Whether it’s truly vintage or a contemporary reproduction of a vintage fabric, incorporating a reminiscent print into your wardrobe will make you instantly stylish. With the popularity of Mad Men, designer have incorporated vintage fabrics across the runways. Let everyone know you’re in touch with the trends by wearing a jewel toned jacket or retro patterned skinny pant. Pair it will a modern clutch and you’re sure to get jealous glances and compliments all day.

Every fashion lover has a favorite print, but by adding these artsy favorites, your ensemble will look contemporary and noteworthy. Experiment with combining these prints with your wardrobe staples and mix them with each other to freshen up your look and make this your most fashionable year yet.

Influence of colors on fashion designing

19 Monday May 2014

Fashion designing, that is creating pretty garments and party wears centers around the use of colors like red, green, yellow, blue, orange etc. The prime job of a fashion designer is to look for fresh and innovative ideas to spice up the designs and this job will stay incomplete if there are no colors thrown in it.  There seem to be a lack of understanding as to what primary colors can do for you, so there were thousands of tints and hues innovated every day to give in a new blush to the garments.

Pantone colors of the years

Earlier there was a time when fashion industry was full of dark tints and hues which were mostly consisted of the ethnic tribal prints, where maroon was the favorite color of the woman’s attire and black was the favorite color of the gent’s suit.

With changing times, many other things have also changed like people gradually saw the replacement of cultural and gaudy prints with sober and stylish prints. Also maroon was replaced with other primary colors and soon people started using lighter shades in pairs with each other like sky blue and pink. Also men started using shades of black like light and dark grey. People started becoming more open to colors since the stereotype was broken.

Then the new era brought with it the dazzling and cutting edge designs which were showcased during the trendy Fashion Week. New designers, sexy designs and dark colors dominated the first few fashion weeks. Later with time some of the same designs will turn upside down with fashion becoming less on work and more on colors and fabrics used.

Colors everywhere

Nowadays people are more and more inclined towards the use of bold colors that produce a statement like cherry red and funky orange.

Sometimes cheeky, sometimes tacky these eccentric colors hold the key to our heart and makes us more fashionable than we were earlier.

What’s your opinion on these changing trends? I would love to hear it in the comments section.

Manish Arora, is not someone who needs introduction in Indian or international ramp. He is cherished for his colorful and sparkling designs. Often called the Man with a mission to bring out the traditional Indian prints into the mainstream fashion Industry. Sometimes he impresses his viewers with kaleidoscopic patterns, sometime with beads but the one thing that is common in all his designs is that he does not like to restrain himself to the ordeal. Manish Arora grew to fame in 1997 when he launched his signature label with his name. He slowly started unraveling the true India at the ramp where his intelligent use of colors and traditional prints created his own personal identity.

Later he showcased his collection at the first India Fashion week and Hong Kong Fashion Week and showed his athletic appeal of colors and hues to the world. I personally love him for his wild portrayal of haute couture which along with the make-up gives an overall dramatic effect. He has his ways with colors and patterns and uses them to his advantage.

Haute Couture for everyone

Later he started his another label with Reebok, MAC and Swatch called “Fish Fry” which, like its name cashed the authentic Indian colors.  Manish Arora being known for his unrestraint paintbrush, this time with “Fish Fry” became more colorful and gave confirmation to his style. He gave more loud and raunchy collection which carries his statement of classy with sassy.

His playful attitude with colors and his keen vision of experimenting has made him not only my favorite but also of Spanish fashion house Paco Rabanne’ who hired him as its creative head. But after leaving it, Arora was kidnapped by Amrapali in 2012 to launch their jewelry line called India Enchanted. In August 2013 Manish Arora trotted into the coveted line of Indian bridal dresses.

Traditional hand-weaved of Indian prints are used as an advantage to create a complimenting effects to the household.

Also there has been an uptrend of using rug patterned themes for a beautiful home furnishing. High fashion shows in 2014 was filled with lot of rug themes which were very much appreciated. Also many patterns and themes can me weaved on the frame and hanged on the walls. They give symmetry to the place and an inspiration touch to the walls.

To do a beautiful home furnishing one should always pick long lasting and cost effective prints which do not wash away with daily use. Mixing shades is again a good idea to give a blush to your home. Also one can experiment with the space available. Add a little theme here and there to cover up the empty walls and last but not the least, light up the place with different lights and chandeliers.

Beautiful home furnishing requires an inquisitive and innovative mind and above all one needs to have an insight to do experiments. How would you like to add magic to your house? Tell me in the comments section.

The Pantone Color for 2014 has already been revealed. The winning shade which is purple-pink is called Radiant Orchid. In contrast to the green colored hue-Emerald which was crowned the color of 2013, Radiant Orchid is benign and carries the wintry allure. The color is heavy on the purple shade and Pantone is confident that it will dress-up men and women beautifully this year.

Radiant Orchid-the winning shade is a breeze mix of purple and pink and has the mellow as well as the brassy look. Orchids are world-wide loved flowers and so we hope will be this color as well. This shade has the chicanery and is likely to blend in soon. Though it’s not new color to see, but we will see more of it now. This color was already famous  being worn by the first family in 2013 on the Inauguration Day function, and the color obsession continues with mommy Obama, the first lady of U.S

Radiant Orchid-the winning shade can shine very beautifully on the walls or on the color catalogue but will look better if it is used in a combination rather than being worn alone. Take tips from the first family of US that how they, very intelligently used Radiant Orchid-the winning shade to create the vibrancy.

As this color is not a sassy one like our beloved Emerald  so it can be used to create the dramatic look. Since Radiant Orchid-the winning shade has generated the buzz and it’s the new talk of the town so how can we not think about painting our face with this color? Check out the options that you have with Radiant Orchid.

SO what do you think? This color is hot or not?
