We all have one: that one jacket that you absolutely love. You look great in it, it’s comfortable, it’s timelessly fashionable, and, well, it keeps you warm. But because it’s one of your favorite pieces, you can’t stand to keep it in the closet for any long period of time, right? Depending on where you live and where you travel, you may be able to pull that jacket out more often, using a couple of smart tweaks. If you want to maximize the jacket love, take a look at a few different ways to wear that favorite jacket of yours.

Spring

Spring can be a weird time of the year. Sometimes it’s cold, sometimes it’s hot. Sometimes it’s windy and cloudy, and sometimes it’s sunny and warm. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear your favorite jacket in spring. Whether you jacket is black, brown, charcoal, or any other color, you can still liven it up for spring. Combine it with your favorite jumpsuit like this one from Guess. Or wear your favorite pair of Lucky Jeans with a t-shirt under the jacket. In Spring, it’s important to keep the colors light, and the look casual.

Summer

I know: it sounds crazy to wear a leather jacket in the summer. Guess what? It’s not so crazy. Just don’t wear it out in the middle of the day. If you live in a coastal area, it may get cool at night. If you live in a desert, you may experience storms. If you are traveling, you’re likely to go someplace with a cooler temperature. Since it is summer and you don’t want to overheat, match a leather jacket with a pair of shorts and a chic chiffon blouse like these from Modcloth. Match the ensemble with peep toe booties and a great pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer’s or Carrera aviators. Another great way to rock the summer fashion is to combine your favorite jacket with a pretty, blousy dress.

 Fall

Fall could be one of the most fun times of the wear to wear your favorite jacket. If the weather is mild enough, you can still rock out the fashions that you’ve been rocking all year. But if the weather is starting to get blustery though not dreadfully cold, try adding scarves and hats. If the tone of your jacket coordinates, try this fuschia fedora from e4hats.com, or try a wider brimmed hat from Urban Outfitters. Try different scarves for different looks, and remember that the trend in scarves this year is scarves with trim.

Winter

In winter, no matter which part of the country you live in, a jacket becomes an essential part of the wardrobe. Pair it with suitable scarves and hats to create a sophisticated yet cozy look. After all, doctors say that you lose 80% of your body heat from the head and the neck so you’ll need to be covered up to stay warm. But if the weather has gotten so cold that you actually doubt the ability to continue wearing your favorite jacket, consider the effect of layering. Wear skirts over pants. Wear a hoodie underneath the jacket. Wear an oversized scarf like this one on Etsy.

A few smart tweaks and your favorite jacket could be in use for a good part of the year, not just the colder months.
