There are many challenges for glasses wearers. When you first start wearing them, they’re uncomfortable. Sometimes your head hurts from your new prescriptions. Other times, you feel like your frames don’t represent you and they don’t even go with what you’re wearing. More than that, choosing new glasses can be a burden: all the styles and colors are so overwhelming! The least we can do is help you avoid another one of the biggest glasses challenges: the price. We’ve picked 10 great styles that you can buy for between $36-$63, all of which are cool as can be and just right for the upcoming spring season:

1. Aviators:

These became popular in the early 80s with Tom Cruise’s look in Top Gun. The metallic squared tear-drop style is now back in trend, with brands like Aristar ($54) available in brown, demi brown, gray and green. The look goes well with most facial shapes as well, making it a stylish way to improve your vision.

2. Acetate

These are lightweight and comfortable, so it makes a good option for frames. Brands like Marcolin ($43) come in gray and dark brown, and their rectangular shape is great on round faces.

3.Semi-rimmed Glasses

These type of glasses get the best of both worlds: the durability of full rim and the lightness of rimless. Brands like Adensco Bill ($63) come in neutral dark brown, gunmetal or light brown.

4. Oval-shaped Glasses

These simple glasses made of metal are a perfect match to your business attire. Brands like Viva ($43) come in gunmetal and satin brown, and they’re flattering on angular faces.

5. Rectangular Glasses

These are acetate, full-rimmed glasses with light-sensitive lenses. Brands like Bongo Apple ($51) change their intensity depending on the external conditions.

6. Rimless Frames

Brands like Visualities ($36) come in different colors to choose from: black, brown, cherry, grape, lemon, olive, orchid, pearl and red. They’re also the lightest style here.

7. Round Metallic Glasses

Brands like Guess ($60) may remind you a bit of John Lennon, but guess what? The trend is back, so you can wear them without having to worry about it.

8. Small Metallic Glasses

Brands like Savvy ($43) look good on smaller faces, especially if they also happen to be angular. They come in gunmetal and satin gold.

9. Metallic Aviators

These are understated version of glasses feature comfortable nose pads. Brands like National ($43) come in gold and shiny gunmetal.

10. Retro-inspired Glasses

Brands like Steroflex ($63) have full rim made of acetate is trendy as well as durable. So if you’re looking for something hip, these retro-inspired glasses are for you.

Influence of colors on fashion designing

19 Monday May 2014

Fashion designing, that is creating pretty garments and party wears centers around the use of colors like red, green, yellow, blue, orange etc. The prime job of a fashion designer is to look for fresh and innovative ideas to spice up the designs and this job will stay incomplete if there are no colors thrown in it.  There seem to be a lack of understanding as to what primary colors can do for you, so there were thousands of tints and hues innovated every day to give in a new blush to the garments.

Pantone colors of the years

Earlier there was a time when fashion industry was full of dark tints and hues which were mostly consisted of the ethnic tribal prints, where maroon was the favorite color of the woman’s attire and black was the favorite color of the gent’s suit.

With changing times, many other things have also changed like people gradually saw the replacement of cultural and gaudy prints with sober and stylish prints. Also maroon was replaced with other primary colors and soon people started using lighter shades in pairs with each other like sky blue and pink. Also men started using shades of black like light and dark grey. People started becoming more open to colors since the stereotype was broken.

Then the new era brought with it the dazzling and cutting edge designs which were showcased during the trendy Fashion Week. New designers, sexy designs and dark colors dominated the first few fashion weeks. Later with time some of the same designs will turn upside down with fashion becoming less on work and more on colors and fabrics used.

Colors everywhere

Nowadays people are more and more inclined towards the use of bold colors that produce a statement like cherry red and funky orange.

Sometimes cheeky, sometimes tacky these eccentric colors hold the key to our heart and makes us more fashionable than we were earlier.

What’s your opinion on these changing trends? I would love to hear it in the comments section.

17 Saturday May 2014

Sportswears have always been in the non-glam category. They were worn only during workouts as they had no active role on any other occasion. But fashion sense seems to have crept into this arena as well as we have now some of the varied varieties in the regular wear too.

Title: Changing Trends

The world’s sports apparel industry is expected to cross all limits and bounds and reach as high as $126 billion by 2015. These statistics provided by the Global Industry Analysts depicts the exceeding trend of people choosing to live a more healthy and active lifestyle and that too, with style.  For that some of the sports apparel companies are joining hands with the sports brands to produce new line of stylish apparels like Adidas who with Manish Arora produced a new line called the fish curry.

The aging but active population in the US, Japan and in other continents around the world is getting more and more attracted towards fancy garments. Between men and women, women are representing as a highly lucrative target. With the evolution of market towards more eco and wearable techs the departmental stores are competing with mass merchandise.

US based Nike is the world’s leader in sportswear as it sold its products close to 700 Nike-owned retail outlets which are carried through 25,000 US retailer accounts. Due to higher level of innovation in the fashion world, the companies are employing technologies that will increase their potential customer base. The line between regular sports apparel and the rising new trend is the introduction of wearable tech and also the fabrics that has the advantage of friction reduction, lightness, stretch, water resistance and temperature regulation.  Companies are keener to give apparels that are more than just sportswear and this inclination is changing the face of the sports industry.

Functional clothing is that evolutionary sphere of the textiles market, when the simple merchandise crosses all boundaries of just being the cover for the body. On the contrary, functional clothing has invaded into the zones of medicine, biotechnology, physics, computing etc. A variety of functional clothing includes protective, medical and sports clothing.

According to the experts, promoting traditional garments, developing functional wears, reducing the use of toxic chemicals and digging deeper into the arena of functional wears are the four major work fronts of any leading designer label today.

Amongst the new trends, one is of the emergence of performance clothing which has been fueled by latest advancements and breakthroughs. Though originally developed for military purpose, performance clothing is now available for everyone and is also incorporated in sports wears.

Next is environmental hazard protective clothes that protect the skin from heat rays, acid rains, pollution etc. They are critically designed to protect the skin against the extreme elements of the atmosphere.

Then we have biological, chemical and radiation hazard protective. They protect against indigestion, skin contact to hazardous chemicals, toxic gases and other radioactive particulate matter.

Injury protective, therapeutic and rehabilitative functional wear is another useful dimension where the garments protect from slash, cuts etc. These dresses are pressure garments and they help against lymphatic and venal disorders.

Apart from healing, there is another branch called bio-sensing. They monitor the body parameters like heart beat, blood oxygenation, body temperature etc.

Then of course we have sports functional garments which help in enhancing the performance and shape the body for enhanced appearance.

Then lastly we have apparels for special needs like for elderly, infants and disabled. They are specially made for people with special needs. These innovations in the recent era have changed the role of garments and have made them to be more than just clothes to cover the body.

What do you think about these intelligent innovations? Sound off in the comments section.

Guest Blogger-Kristen Kauffman: Smart Ways to Wear Your Favorite Jacket

07 Wednesday May 2014

I am delighted that we now have the opportunity to feature guest blogger Kristen Kauffman on the Fuel4Fashion blog. We are now starting a guest blog section, in order to bring more niche topics and unique content from the fashion industry to our readers. This segment will feature articles on topics similar to the ones we have been bringing you, but from a variety of authors from the field of fashion.

This is the first article of the guest blogging series & today Kristen will talk about Smart Ways to Wear Your Favorite Jacket.

We all have one: that one jacket that you absolutely love. You look great in it, it’s comfortable, it’s timelessly fashionable, and, well, it keeps you warm. But because it’s one of your favorite pieces, you can’t stand to keep it in the closet for any long period of time, right? Depending on where you live and where you travel, you may be able to pull that jacket out more often, using a couple of smart tweaks. If you want to maximize the jacket love, take a look at a few different ways to wear that favorite jacket of yours.

Spring

Spring can be a weird time of the year. Sometimes it’s cold, sometimes it’s hot. Sometimes it’s windy and cloudy, and sometimes it’s sunny and warm. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear your favorite jacket in spring. Whether you jacket is black, brown, charcoal, or any other color, you can still liven it up for spring. Combine it with your favorite jumpsuit like this one from Guess. Or wear your favorite pair of Lucky Jeans with a t-shirt under the jacket. In Spring, it’s important to keep the colors light, and the look casual.

Summer

I know: it sounds crazy to wear a leather jacket in the summer. Guess what? It’s not so crazy. Just don’t wear it out in the middle of the day. If you live in a coastal area, it may get cool at night. If you live in a desert, you may experience storms. If you are traveling, you’re likely to go someplace with a cooler temperature. Since it is summer and you don’t want to overheat, match a leather jacket with a pair of shorts and a chic chiffon blouse like these from Modcloth. Match the ensemble with peep toe booties and a great pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer’s or Carrera aviators. Another great way to rock the summer fashion is to combine your favorite jacket with a pretty, blousy dress.

 Fall

Fall could be one of the most fun times of the wear to wear your favorite jacket. If the weather is mild enough, you can still rock out the fashions that you’ve been rocking all year. But if the weather is starting to get blustery though not dreadfully cold, try adding scarves and hats. If the tone of your jacket coordinates, try this fuschia fedora from e4hats.com, or try a wider brimmed hat from Urban Outfitters. Try different scarves for different looks, and remember that the trend in scarves this year is scarves with trim.

Winter

In winter, no matter which part of the country you live in, a jacket becomes an essential part of the wardrobe. Pair it with suitable scarves and hats to create a sophisticated yet cozy look. After all, doctors say that you lose 80% of your body heat from the head and the neck so you’ll need to be covered up to stay warm. But if the weather has gotten so cold that you actually doubt the ability to continue wearing your favorite jacket, consider the effect of layering. Wear skirts over pants. Wear a hoodie underneath the jacket. Wear an oversized scarf like this one on Etsy.

A few smart tweaks and your favorite jacket could be in use for a good part of the year, not just the colder months.
